Christ-Centered Sports and Extracurriculars at Immanuel Lutheran School
At Immanuel Lutheran School, we recognize that sports, clubs, and other extracurricular activities are a vital part of a Christian education. Through athletics and other groups, students build a sense of community in the school setting; enhance relationships between staff, coaches, students, and families; and have an opportunity to use their talents and sportsmanship to speak to God’s glory.
Sports and clubs allow students to put Biblical principles into real-life practice, with many teachable moments in areas of honesty, encouraging others, humbly winning, and losing with grace.
“Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor’s crown except by competing according to the rules.” 2 Timothy 2:5
Athletics at Immanuel Lutheran School — We Are Crusaders!
The sports program at Immanuel Lutheran School typically begins in fifth grade, however; there are some exceptions. Our mascot is the Immanuel Lutheran Crusaders. Listed below are the sports we offer:
Volleyball — There are two volleyball teams consisting of girls in 5th and 6th grades and girls in 7th and 8th grades. Most games will be played between area Catholic schools and smaller public schools. Students also occasionally compete in tournaments hosted by St. Louis Lutheran schools.
Cheerleading — Girls in 7th and 8th grade have an opportunity to participate in cheerleading if there is an interest.
Clubs, Choirs, and Other Extracurricular Activities
If your student isn’t an athlete, there are still plenty of opportunities to build community, make friends and have fun. Listed below are some of the extracurricular activities offered at Immanuel Lutheran School.
Choir — Students in all grade levels can lift their voices in worship through one of our three choirs: Early Childhood, with students in preschool and pre-kindergarten; Primary Choir for students in 1st through 4th grades; and Joyful Noise, for students in 5th through 8th grades.
Righteous Ringers — Righteous Ringers is a handbell choir for students in 7th and 8th grades. Students who love music and a good challenge are encouraged to participate.
Student Council — Students in 3rd through 8th grade can participate in Student Council, which develops leadership skills. Students help with school activities and service projects, build spirit and act on behalf of their peers in the school setting.
Lego League — Lego League is as cool as it sounds, and it’s offered to students in 3rd through 8th grades.
Youth Group — All students in 5th through 8th grades are invited to participate in the youth group offered through Immanuel Lutheran Church.
